ModuSec construction options
- steelworks
As discussed, ceilings can span up to 6m without additional
support (3.8m for High Security options). For rooms with spans
greater than this we can support off the existing structure or
alternatively design, manufacture and install independent steelwork
- for external and internal projects.
We work with clients to
design a structure to meet the particular needs of a project,
minimising the impact of columns to the layout of the space.
The initial aim is always to have a space with 'no internal columns'.
However, for larger spans with limited height, this is not always
possible, due to the size of steels or trusses required. It is
often more cost effective to include some internal columns – strategically
placing them within rack runs to maximise the rack capacity of
the space. We try to restrict column sizes for internal rooms
to just 100mm square (130mm square with fire protection cladding).
Most commonly, we use 152 x 152 RSJ/UB clad beams to support
ceilings from underneath. This offers optimum security and sealing
against flood risk – as all joints can be double sealed
above
– if access is available. Ceilings can alternatively be
supported below beams via our suspension 'top hat' system.
Note
that we can also design and build 2 storey structures with 'double
stack' rack halls or for M & E services above. For external
structures, almost any style of roof can be accommodated. All
designs are by qualified structural engineers who can provide
clients with the necessary calculations and documentation for
Building Control approval. For examples of both interior and exterior projects,
