Control Room Furniture
DSM
Case Study
Brief:
An existing manufacturing process control room was to be upgraded
to accommodate a new Honeywell GUS operator station system. This
was to comprise 2 banks of 4 x 20” TFT monitors, 2 large keyboard
panels, telephone units plus 2 non-essential PC’s. All other
hardware critical to the continuity of the manufacturing process
was to be accommodated in a fire protected equipment room.
 |
The
proposal is based on our ‘Kontrol System’ with
bespoke desk shapes. The desk surface has a lower rear monitor
platform with our toolbar monitor arm system that provides
full adjustability (depth, height, angle, etc). This is to
be fitted with a rear screen and a cable tray that leads down
the centre of the Kontrol leg units. These have lift off side
panels for cable access.
The
telephones are mounted on a lower pod to allow visual access
over to the factory. The 2 PC’s are also accommodated
with the base units in cradles beneath the desk surface (far
enough back so as not to impede knee room) and 2 paper trays
above. The layout is completed with an admin table and printer
stand. |

The
equipment room is totally enclosed with our ModularIT
fire protected room system. This consists of wall and ceiling panels
plus door systems to give a very high level of protection (tested
to 950 degC) from external fires, smoke, dust and water. The control
room is also to be built with our wall panels on 2 sides (existing
block wall to the front) and our ceiling panels. Fire suppression
is to be installed in the equipment room with detection in the control
room. Both rooms are to have a 300mm high raised access floor with
the necessary ramps and stairs. The main door into the control room
– which is a fire door with a 4 sided double rebated frame
– provides a high level of physical security and is fitted
with a proximity access control system that can be fully monitored.
The room is also to be fitted with an appropriate lighting scheme
controlled from the main desk.
This
area is critical to the continuity of the manufacturing process
and it is felt by the company and their insurance company that it
should have the highest possible levels of physical and environmental
security – in additional to an ergonomically sound (but cost
effective) control desk.
